Pub Tables: Fabulous New Places To Put Them

Pub tables are no longer just found in bars. Nowadays there are pub tables used for the home as well. Pub tables have proven to offer quite a bit of versatility and while many have always thought pub tables are only used for entertaining purposes, many others realize the full range these tables offer.

Lets start out by saying many pub tables used for the home are indeed purchased for bar use. If you do a lot of entertaining and theres only a few seats at your home bar, having one or two pub tables can provide for a better entertaining environment. However, as I stated earlier, this is not the only reason people purchase pub tables used for the home.

Lets say you have a small breakfast nook and a regular dinette set just wont fit in there. Should you just leave it empty? Of course not! Simply use a pub table. The smaller diameter of pub tables used for the home should allow you to fit a pub table and at least two chairs into the small breakfast nook area.

Another great place to put pub tables used for the home is on an enclosed deck. An enclosed deck is great for enjoying the outdoor air and pub tables used for the home offer a wonderful place to sip a cool glass of lemonade or iced tea. It is not uncommon for people to have a few bar stools and pub tables used for the home furnishing their enclosed outdoor rooms.

When shopping for pub tables used for the home, remember that even though you dont need your pub table to have commercial durability, it doesnt mean you should settle for poor quality and as with many things, you get what you pay for. Make sure the pub tables you purchase are durable and that youll get years of use out of them.

The price range for quality pub tables used for the home varies, but you should plan on spending at least three or four hundred dollars. If someone is selling pub tables used for the home at one or two-hundred dollars a piece, theyre not selling quality pub tables.

What Is MCSE Certification?

Studies show that people who work in the IT industry are paid much more than others. This is probably because it is a specialized field to get into and you have to study and get certified to work among the best.

One of the most prestigious ones around is called MCSE certification. Those who pass are called Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers and only those that have been working in the IT industry for about a year are allowed to enroll in the program.

There are two types of MCSE's currently available. The first is for Windows 2000 and the other is for Windows 2003.

Those that decide to take the first one will have to deal with exams such as 70-210 Windows 2000 Professional, 70-215 Windows 2000 Server, 70-216 Network Administration, 70-219 Active Directory Design and elective exams such as 70-220 as well as 70-224 Exchange 2000 Server.

The second one which is Windows 2003 has an exam called 70-290, which is supposed to test your mental ability when it comes to managing and maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003. There is also 70-291 that is an environment exam and 70-294 that tackles tests planning.

Anyone that wants to become certified will have to undergo IT training before taking the exam. Such places are called boot camps and after paying between $4,000 to $6,000 for a course that will last 2 weeks, you will be given all the review material needed such as practice tests with questions and answers to help you understand key concepts, tutorials, study notes and other tips. Some of these learning centers will even offer a money back guarantee if you don't pass on the first try.

If the review material is not enough, you can even have someone tutor you along the way. This person will be there to determine your strong points so more focus can be given on topics that you need a lot of improvement. Those that can review on their own can buy the book that already comes with a CD, which costs about $1,000.

In order to get MCSE certification, you have to pass a battery of exams. Five of which are operating systems while the other 2 are electives.

Given that the cost of the program is quite expensive, you can try to ask your employer if they are willing to pay for it. Some companies do that in exchange for a number of years of service. Other firms already have the material on hand and will offer this to the employees for home study, which will save you hundreds of dollars.

If they won't help out, you should try getting a loan or saving up the amount that is required.

Getting MCSE certification has its advantages. For one, it will be easier for you to find a job since almost every company needs to have someone checking on the computer network at all times. This will also allow you to demand more money should you decide to work for someone because you have a document in your hand saying how good you are.

For those that want to have a career in the IT industry, it is best to get MCSE certification. After all, most companies in the United States use this unlike those in Europe that are more familiar with Linux.

Living Within Your Means

Seventy percent of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Many have no emergency savings and are deeply in debt. If they lose a job most people would not be able to sustain their current lifestyle for more than a couple of weeks. Many Americans are routinely spending more than they make through the use of credit cards and borrowed money.

If you are among the majority who are not saving for emergencies first determine how you are spending. Go back through check stubs and credit card statements and determine how you are spending. Then look for areas where spending can be reduced.

While energy costs are going up, you may be able to save some on your utility bills through conservation efforts. A combination of tax credits and fuel savings might make a new furnace a cost saver over the long term, provided it is significantly more efficient than your existing furnace. Programmable thermostats might also save money. Set the thermostat at the minimum comfortable temperature in the winter and maximum comfortable temperature in the summer.

Cooking for yourself more and eating out less could also save money. Be realistic about your habits. For a busy family a supply of frozen entrees may be easier than cooking from scratch every night. If you cook only on weekends make double batches of everything that can be frozen and freeze half for a later meal. Label them with the date so that you dont waste money by leaving food in the freezer for several months then having to throw it out.

If clothing, books or other consumable products are your downfall plan activities for free time that keep you out of the mall and away from stores. If you have an overflowing closet, go through your clothes, plan your wardrobe around your lifestyle and needs, then take good quality used items to a clothing consignment shop. Use the money you get from the consignment shop to find a few good pieces that will complete a coordinated wardrobe. Give the worn and not so good extra clothes to a thrift shop or charity. They may sell the extremely worn pieces for rags, but they get some money from it and you dont have those rags cluttering up your closet and you can see what you do have to wear. Books can be taken to used book stores and a variety of other items to second hand shops or thrift stores. Keep track of everything you give away, because if you itemize your deductions you can deduct them with proper documentation.

For some people recreational spending is a problem. If you are deeply in debt you might have to sacrifice a few days on the slopes or an exotic vacation. Investigate where tourists go when they come to your area, then spend one vacation being a tourist in your own city or region. You can choose prime vacation time for that location without worrying about paying prime hotel prices.

If your debt is a serious problem and these measures wont cover it you may have to make more major changes. These changes are major because they may affect the image you are trying to project to the world or to your family. Do your children really need to go to private school? Will the public or charter schools in the area provide as good an education? If not, and scholarships are not an option, you may have to make some sacrifices in other areas. Studies have shown that graduates from Ivy League colleges do not necessarily earn more ten years later than graduate of state colleges unless they were of lower socio-economic status on entering college and made contacts and learned different values and goals in college that they wouldnt have otherwise, so if your child wants you to foot the bill for an exclusive college and that will increase your debt it may not be a good idea.

If car payments, insurance and gasoline constitute more than 15% of your income it may be time to sell your car and buy a smaller, more efficient or less expensive used car. If house payments, insurance, property taxes and other home expenses are more than 35% of your income, you may need to downsize. Americans today live in much larger houses than they did 50 years ago. Buying a smaller, older house may be just what you need to do to reduce spending so that it is within your income. You may even be able to find a smaller house closer to your workplace so that you can reduce your transportation costs.

If none of these cost reducing measures is enough to make your income meet your outgo you may need to look for other sources of income. A part-time home business, different job or a spouse returning to work may be the only solution.

Four Steps To Building a Better Backswing

The golf swing is basically a chain reaction, as I've said before. One good move leads naturally to another. Obviously, the first few "links" in the chain are critical, since they determine the quality and the shape of the swing. If you make a proper backswing, as I often write in my golf tips, you'll develop power, accuracy, and consistency in your swing.

Unfortunately, some golfers take their backswing lightly. Instead of taking the club back slowly and smoothly, they rush it and find themselves in a poor position to start their forwardswing. A poor backswing requires complex adjustments during the swing, which can throw it off. The end result is a slice, a hook, or an otherwise ugly shot. If you want to develop consistency and power-while improving your golf handicap-you must build a better backswing.

Make a Preflight Check

Get in the habit of making a preflight check before starting your backswing. A good set-up increases the chances of starting off right. Check for correct posture, the right weight distribution, and the proper ball position, which should be just inside the left heel when using longer clubs and toward the middle of your stance for shorter clubs. Also, check to see that the club's shaft is an extension of the left arm (right-handers) and that you have a neutral grip.

In addition, check your tee-height. As a general rule, the top edge of the driver should be level with the ball's equator, irrespective of the clubhead's size and design. This rule also applies to the 3-wood when used from the tee. The design of this club hasn't changed significantly over the years. Its clubhead is smaller than almost all drivers' clubheads, especially the new ones. You need to tee the ball lower to achieve the right height for the 3-wood.

Shift Weight Properly

Allowing your weight to move back and forth in harmony with the swing's direction generates power. If the upper body coil and the weight shift are both correct in the backswing, the natural movement is a lateral one onto the right foot (right-handers), preparing the golfer for a forceful forwardswing. This is followed by a weight shift to the front foot.

Annika Sorenstam, considered by many as the number one ranked woman golfer on the pro tour, presents a good example of someone whose weight shifts properly during her backswing. Watch her when she swings. If you compare her head position at the top of backswing with her head position at the start of her backswing, you'll see that it has moved a good 5-6 inches (12-15 cm) to the right, enabling her to "get behind the ball."

Think "All Arms"

A proper takeaway is critical to a good swing. The catalyst for the chain reaction, the takeaway starts everything in motion, as I stress in my golf lessons. It introduces width and coordination in the swing, and determines the quality and shape of the shot. The first 30 inches of the takeaway is perhaps the most crucial point in the swing. The goal is a one-piece takeaway.

To achieve a one-piece takeaway, sweep the club back low and slow as your left knee, hip, and shoulder turn to the right. Shift your weight slightly onto the right foot (for right-handers), creating the feeling as if the move was "all arms." And hold your chin up as you take the club away to allow for a full left shoulder turn.

Turn and Set

The turn and set is the final element of the backswing. Once the takeaway is complete, the wrists hinge as the body continues to turn and the arms swing the club up on plane. A useful checkpoint in the swing occurs at the halfway point in the backswing. In a properly executed backswing, the club points toward the sky. From there on, it's a simple movement to the top of the backswing.

Watch the takeaway of Ernie Els when opportunity permits. His upper body, hands, arms, and the club all move away from the ball in harmony. The wrists are almost completely passive. They only start to hinge as the hands reach a point just beyond the right hip, the ideal takeaway to emulate. Notice also that he lifts his left heel slightly as he takes the club back. There's no hard and fast rule on this, as I've said in my golf tips. If you need to lift it slightly to complete a full body turn, then do so.

One last tip on building a better backswing: As you begin, try thinking "low and smooth." Maintaining this swing thought as you start your swing encourages you take the club back in a deliberate manner.

Building a better backswing is a key to generating a consistent, repeatable swing-the hallmark of players with low golf handicaps. Work on your backswing in practice. You'll see a difference in your swing on the course.

Are They Snoring in the Back Row

Top 5 tips for an engaging and dynamic presentation that gets and keeps your audiences attention

Imagine that you have spent the better part of two weeks working on an important speech you plan to give to your company. You think you have done everything right. You have created a PowerPoint presentation with tons of information and flash animation. You have created handouts of the slides for your audience, so they can follow along. Although you havent had time to rehearse the presentation you are not worried, because you have the entire speech typed out. You plan to read it while you blow their socks off with the dynamic PowerPoint slides. Everything should be perfect, right? WRONG!!!

If you were to look at your audience (which you cannot, because you are reading your script) you would see them either riveted to the screen or to the handout in front of them, but not at you. The audience members who are eye weary from all the information you have packed into the slides are closing their eyes just to rest them. What went wrong?

Experienced speakers know that to engage their audience, they must build rapport. Reading from a script makes this difficult, if not impossible, because connecting with an audience requires direct eye contact. No matter how well written your speech, if you read your presentation to an audience, you will lose them.

Reading to your audience can also make you seem less authoritative. The audience wonders, "If you know so much about the topic, why can't you just talk about it? Why are you reading?"

Here are 5 tips for getting and keeping your audiences attention:

Make Eye Contact

Free yourself from the written page and demonstrate your expertise by using one of these ideas:

1. Memorization

If you want to memorize your speech, it is helpful to rehearse it out loud just before you go to sleep and right when you get up.

2. Outline

If you use the outline method to create your script, you can simply go back and clean it up and use that for the presentation. If you dont have an outline prepared you can create one using the major points of your presentation.

3. Key word method

This technique calls for you to select key words from your script that represent a paragraph or two of information. These key words should jog your memory so that you can speak extemporaneously. You can use a single page of key words, or place them on 3x5 cards (always number the cards). If you are a visually oriented person you can find an image that represents the key word and create a pictogram.

4. Teleprompter

Nothing helps you maintain good eye contact without memorization like the

teleprompter

When speaking to an audience, you want to make everyone in the audience feel that the message is being directed to them personally. If you find that actually looking into the eyes of your audience is difficult and distracting, look at the tops of their heads which will create the illusion that you are speaking directly to them.

In order to include the whole audience, use a Z pattern. Start by looking at the front left section of the audience. After finishing your thought, turn your gaze to the front right section. Again, finish your thought and direct your gaze to the center section. Then look at the rear left section and after completing your thought look to the rear right section.

Know your audience

The more you know about your audiences wants, needs and level of understanding, the better able you are to craft a speech they will feel compelled to listen to. Too often speakers give the same presentation to different groups. Generic speeches tend to lose most of the audience. A speech needs to be relevant and specific.

You need to make sure that you are using words and ideas that are easily grasped by your audience. This doesnt mean you have to dumb down your speech, but it does mean checking to make sure that you are not using jargon or acronyms that are only known by a few.

Your audience is always thinking, Whats in this for me? Keep this question in mind when you craft your speech.

Throw away your PowerPoint

I think that there is no other element of a presentation that can bore an audience more quickly than PowerPoint slides. Okay, I know you are starting to curse at me now. Get rid of PowerPoint? Well, maybe I need to restate that. You can keep PowerPoint, if you use it properly and effectively and not as an eye sight test. Follow these simple rules:

1. Choose an easy font to read, such as Arial or Times Roman.

2. Font size should be at least 28 pt (bulleted items should be at least 22 pt).

3. Use colors carefully (reds and oranges are hard to focus on).

4. Dont crowd too many words on the screen (3 lines of type is more than enough).

5. Keep the slides simple, clean and easy to read.

6. View the PowerPoint presentation on the screen after you have created the slides and prior to your presentation. Check for ease of readability. The slides really do look different on the screen.

7. Dont read the slides verbatim. Quite frankly, most of your audience will be able to read the slide, so why repeat it?

I think the most powerful PowerPoints are those that use only pictures, a key word or phrase or graphics. There is no reason to simply use a slide to repeat what you have said. Instead, use a visual aid to reinforce your point. It is true that a picture is worth a thousand words.

You should direct your audiences attention to the screen and back to you. Simply turn your gaze to the screen for a moment or two and then look back to your audience. These subtle cues allow your audiences attention to move from the screen then back to you.

Give hand-outs after your presentation.

If you are making a presentation that has a lot of important and/or technical information, you can provide a hand-out, but only AFTER the presentation. If people have your slides while you are speaking they tend to read ahead or stay glued to the hand-out and not to you. If you give them the hand out after your presentation, it will reinforce all of your material without stealing attention from you.

Rehearse

I know people hate to rehearse. It is hard not to feel silly when practicing your speech. However, there is nothing that helps a speaker more than the familiarity and ease you get from saying the words out loud. (Yes, it does make a difference to say the words out loud.) I practice when I am in my car driving alone or while on the treadmill at home. The shower can also be a great place to practice.

Try these ideas with your next presentation. Even if you only use one or two of these tips, you will have taken a huge step toward being the speaker that your audience will be compelled to stay awake and listen to. No one will be snoring in the back row.

Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan's career is at an all time high. She keeps the movie's interesting and she is very voluptuous. She has become a teen idol, that has been able to reach success with her songs and acting career. Paris Hilton is trying to acheive similar status, but I doubt she will reach the top like Lindsay Lohan.

Just My Luck is the type of movie that will appeal to young people as well as troubled adults. If you have ever felt, like you have the worst luck in the world, then you will be encouraged by this movie. Jake Hardin(Chris Pine) plays a ticking time bomb of never ending failure, until he meets Ashley Albright (Lindsay Lohan) with a magical kiss.

Whatever Jake Hardin(Chris Pine) trys to do, he ends up almost killing himself and being a total embarrassment to the band he is trying to promote. Lindsay Lohan plays the luckiest girl in the world. Her friends sit back and watch as her life unfolds into a fairy tale. She wins money playing scratch off tickets and wins the admiration of her boss.

Lindsay Lohan single-handedly wins the trust of a big music producer, while her boss and the other associates remains trapped in an elevator. Once the boss shows up for the meeting, the music producer has already agreed to have them host his music party. Lindsay Lohan's boss is so impressed, that she gets to make the party plan preparations and gets her own office.

Guys will like certain parts of the movie, being that it is a chick flick. Mainly the parts with Lindsay Lohan and lets face it, she is the only reason a guy would watch this movie. Is this movie a winner? Unfortunately, it is not a winner. She was much better in, "Freaky Friday", where she was playing in a cool band.

This movie is predictable and you know early on that something is going to go wrong for her. Lindsay might want to look at playing a role as a prostitute, because she has been playing the nice sweet girl in all of her recent movies. What she does in her personal life, might make a better movie. She seems to be very far away from the Mickey Mouse Club!

If you paid to see this movie in the theater, I feel sorry for you, because you were robbed. Not just robbed of your dignity, but robbed financially! Even her other movies were some what bearable, but this movie was like rolling naked down a hill of broken glass! One movie-goer on line said, "no surprises, it's as bad as you expected." When I read that comment in the imdb.com movie review section, I started laughing. This movie is painfully boring!

At one point in the movie, Jake Hardin(Chris Pine) is attacked by the feces of some pigeons. This whole movie was attacked by pigeons and covered in dung! The movie, just could not get the wings to fly on its own. The wings were broken from the start! When I was done watching this movie, I said, "Just My Luck"! It would have been refreshing if the movie, had some imagination vs utter boredom! Cutting raw onions would have been more pleasing than watching this movie. Not to mention, I would have had a good reason for crying!

Can Walt Disney save Lindsay Lohan's career choices? Will she choose another role, that only a pigeon will fly over? Will Lindsay play the bad girl, that she really wants to be? This comedy will leave you looking for a qualified therapist. Someday we will be watching some old movies on Lifetime network, where Lindsay is running a homeless shelter in New York City. I am hoping she will be serving cream filled twinkies!

Special Education Needs Causing Financial Crisis in California Schools

Now, I am all for special education for children with disabilities. I attended school at a time when such children were either put into special schools or thrown in with the general student population to sink or swim on their own. It was a terrible inequity. It finally was addressed in the 1970s with a law designed to correct such discrimination by giving these children the civil right to an equal opportunity to learn. The law covered children from birth to age 22, guaranteeing them the right to a free and appropriate public education. It is the ambiguous word appropriate written into the law that is creating a crisis for the California schools, according to Nanette Asimov, staff writer for the San Francisco Chronicle.

The article cited a situation of one California schools child with a disability. The assigned public middle school offered special college prep classes, daily help from a special education expert, a laptop computer, extra time for tests, the opportunity to temporarily leave class if the childs had an anxiety attack, and a special advocate to smooth over any problems with teachers.

The parents hired a special consultant instead, who found alternative schooling opportunities all were private schools and all were out-of-state. They settled on a boarding school in Maine, outside the main city, that had one-tenth of the enrollment of the California schools. The one thing this school did not offer was a special education program. The mother said that smaller classrooms and a smaller campus were more important than a special education program. Since the possibility of anxiety attacks was mentioned in the article, no one can truly judge the merit of this situation except the childs physician and/or psychologist.

After the child was placed into the private school, the parents then hired an attorney, who specializes in special education cases, to file papers with the court demanding the California schools pay four years of tuition and family travel costs between California and Maine. Tuition was $30,000 annually. The California schools met the demands.

This is only one such case in the California schools, which may or may not have been justified. The problem is that it is not the only case. In 2005, there were 3,763 California schools children with disabilities that were the focus of formal complaints the vast majority of which came from parents. This is triple the number of only ten years ago, and the numbers are growing.

With a cost of almost $40,000 to go to a court hearing and the possibility of an expensive judgment, the California schools attempt to settle cases before they get that far. In 2005, ten percent of the California schools cases went to a full hearing 386 in all. The remaining 90 percent were resolved through confidential settlements. With 700,000 special needs students currently in the California schools and already paying hundreds of thousands of dollars each year for private placements, the school system is headed for a financial crisis.

In 2004, the California schools received $4.1 billion for special education from the government and local sources. It was still not enough to pay these extra settlement costs, and the California schools had to take $1.6 billion from the regular class budget. Twenty-eight percent of the special education expenditures that year came from the regular education budget.

California schools educators complain that parents who are able to afford an attorney are assured more opportunities for their children than those who cannot afford to do so, creating an inequity between the haves and have-nots. Additionally, special education teachers see benefits to special programs, such as horseback riding therapy, but acknowledge that such parent demands are not education related. California schools parents and educators are at odds.

Parents are making tuition payment demands of the California schools for such programs as private day schools, boarding schools, summer camps, horseback riding therapy, and aqua therapy. Additionally, the California schools are expected to pay for computers, airfare, car rental, hotel stays, meals, new clothing and tailoring for the children, cell phone calls, stamps, gas and tolls, and future round-trip visits from time of enrollment until the children graduate from high school.

In all, the California schools are paying billions of dollars each year for private placements and auxiliary costs. It is creating an inequity for children the civil rights law was passed to protect and a financial crisis for the California schools.

I have to admit that I wanted every opportunity possible for my child to live a happy and normal adult life. I had a special needs child and spent many hours sitting in principals offices and at the school board demanding that his needs be met. I was thankful that he received access to the available offerings within the public school system.

In my view, however, it is not a question of right or wrong, justified expenditure or not. It is a question of the legislators going back and specifically defining the word appropriate. Until then, the California schools are borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, which means less opportunities all the way around.

The HD Media Future

The HD Media future

Everyone knows that media format wars have historical significance in the world of technology. Remember the most notorious battle between the Beta max and the VHS? The winner of such battles will make millions even billions. Later we had the upgrade of tape to CD, a revolution in music. In 1980 the Philips/Sony compact disc standard was finalized and nobody has looked back for the last 26 years (until mp3's came along).

Well as ever there is a new media battle but who will win again is yet unknown. This modern forest of technological mass has produced a new insurgency: THE HIGH DEFINITION WAR. Blu-ray vs HD-DVD are two competing formats which are eventually going to replace DVD's. As you look around at your local electric retailers you can see changes happening in the broadcast world, not only are we changing from our conventional CRT screens to Flat screen but also to HD ready TV. The impact this has on our lives is not as large as black and white to colour, but nevertheless a change that will definitely be a benchmark for future media.

Why New formats?

The reason we have introduced these new formats is that your traditional DVD can hold a maximum of 9.4 GB (Dual Layer) of information. This is not enough for HD broadcast as the information required is higher, being a resolution of 1920x1080. Blu-ray discs can hold 50 GB (Dual Layer) and HD-DVD 30 GB (Dual Layer).

These new discs cannot be played on normal DVD players but on new HD media players of which examples are Samsung BDP 1000 (Blu-Ray), Sony Playstation 3 (Blu-Ray), Toshiba HDXA1 (HD-DVD). This means spending more money for better resolution.

Price

This is always important especially when new models of media come out; at first it is always expensive as supply out strips demand. The players are expensive, the cheapest being the Playstation 3 supposedly retailing at 549. Blu-Ray media also being expensive; similar to DVD's when they first came out (taking inflation into consideration), blank media costing from 11.99 to 24.99.

To play a Blu-ray Disc on a PC has brought about a price concern. The fact that you have to purchase a HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) Graphic card, along with a HD monitor, not to mention a Blu-ray Drive and media, controversially may bring about decrease in sales. This is presently being contested with new Laptops and PCs that are Blu-ray compatible, look at the New Vaio VGN-AR21S.

The HD players need to be up to scratch on price. The Toshiba HD-DVD player retailing at almost half the price of the Blu-ray Samsung player creates even more competition between the two media. This could encourage sales of HD-DVD over Blu-ray, even though it's rumoured that Toshiba will be making a loss initially.

Prices of movies doesn't seem to be as high as anticipated; a Blu-ray movie 'House of flying daggers' from amazon.com will set you back $19.95 (10.68). This may encourage sales. Movies in HD-DVD identical in price, yet Blu-ray is a larger size disc.

Upscaling

Another problem HD may face is that the new DVD players have the upscaling technology ie. DVD is played at 480p but upscalers upgrade the image to 720p or 1080i. This produces a picture which is of high quality to the untrained eye, in fact even the trained eye has difficulty distinguishing between the two. The difference is seen on a 50 inch HD projector and looking right up close. So the question is will 1080p be much different to 1080i? Will people fork out the added expense when they know that a cheaper DVD upscaler will create more or less the same effect?

Media Backup

Software and Hardware companies have invested a lot of money in subsidising HD media. Samsung, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, LG, Sony, TDK, JVC and Sharp support Blu-ray and Toshiba and Microsoft back HD-DVD. Hollywood movie studios Disney, Paramount, Warner, Sony, Eagle rock, Fox and MGM and Lions gate support Blu-ray also. None of these large companies would take such a gamble if they didn't know that this is what the consumer wants.

PlayStation 3

Sony love to bring out their own media whether its Sony Duo Sticks or Sony Mini Discs. Their hunger to dominate the consumer market has always been there and this is nothing different. The Playstation 3 will play Blu-Ray discs, still having the ability to play older media like DVDs and CDs. The success of the predecessor's PS1 and PS2 will give much anticipation to the release of this new console and is what Sony are hoping will convert people to use Blu-Ray. A Sony spokesman has predicted that Blu-Ray will dominate the HD market within 12 months.

The encouraging feature with HD-DVD is the name, everyone's ears will ring with the name and automatically assume that this is a high definition movie. Asking someone in the street what 'Blu-ray' is will bring looks of confusion, along with the fact that both will produce similar quality pictures.

Region Coding

Region coding with Blu-Ray may put people off; the fact that you may not be able to watch a new release from the states or Japan on your European locked regional player will raise eyebrows.

REGION 1 South America, North America, East Asia (except China)
REGION 2 Europe and Africa
REGION 3 China, Russia other Countries

Multiregional configurations on DVD players has encouraged sales worldwide especially with worldwide films from Bollywood, Japan (manga) and South America.

So far the HD-DVD camp has not announced region coding just yet, and if they don't then this will be very advantageous for consumers.

Future Proof

Realistically you only need about 15-20 GB for a feature length film in High definition but who would have known that DVD's could not be able to hold enough for high definition. Theoretically they can with MPEG-4 Compression. In any case media like Blu-ray will hopefully be future proof in years to come.

Conclusion

The timescale and price are the two main issues here, how quick we will universally change to HD and whether this is affordable. From a consumer point of view the necessity for HD doesn't seem imperative, after all VHS was around for 20 odd years twice that of DVD (so far). You could argue that technology is changing exponentially and that changes occur quicker.

As for the battle between the two media there may be compromise ahead. A UK firm has announced a solution to the media war. London-based New Medium Enterprises (NME) has developed a low-cost, multilayer DVD disc that can store Blu-ray content on one layer and HD DVD content on another. This would leave the consumer with the choice of buying either type of player to play the one disc.

The key setback I feel with the looming HD change is the cheaper alternative to a Blu-Ray player or HD-DVD player, the DVD upscaler. Do people want to get rid of those hundreds of DVDs they bought to replace them with an expensive alternative, especially when they might not even notice the difference in picture quality?

However I do feel that HD is encouraged with consoles such as the Playstation 3. Blu-ray is its main format and may revolutionise the games industry.

How To Decorate Your New Home

You are really excited because you are moving into a new home and although it is structurally sound the interior decorating is not quite to your taste. Sometimes when people sell their homes they do a good job of presentation but when they have moved out and the furniture is gone then the cracks begin to show. The lighting may have obscured the fact that the ceiling is dingy and the curtains may have hidden the peeling paint on the window frames. Whatever the situation it is usually the case that most people get involved to some extent in new home decorating.

You bought the house because you liked the general scheme of things but now you have decided that the avocado bathroom suite really isnt to your taste. You have a couple of options here, you can get hold of a couple of cans of special bathroom paint and cover it up so that all you need to replace is the toilet. On the other hand you might decide that white bathroom suites are a must for you and a complete change is called for. If this is the case then it is a good idea to go to a specialist bathroom outlet or one of the discount do it yourself outlets. If you do some rudimentary research and look around you may find that you can get a new bathroom suite quite cheaply then you are left with the problem of installing it.

Unless you are used to a mix of plumbing and electric and unless you have a kind relative or friend who is in the trade then you will probably have to have a professional in to install it. New showers are a particular problem for beginning do-it-yourself enthusiasts and really require professional expertise.

If the bathroom suite is ok then perhaps the smallest room in the house would benefit from a coat of paint or maybe some new tiles. Even a new blind would brighten a tired bathroom.

If the kitchen is the bug bear in your new home then try updating the cabinets, either with new doors or just a coat of paint. Paint the walls if they really need it but dont go for bright colors they soon look tired. Neutral is best, then add color with blinds and accessories

Before you make any decisions take a good look around your new home. Decorating may not be the answer. Unless there are things that you feel you feel you really cant live with then try using different furniture arrangements and swapping curtains i.e. living room to bedroom etc. Get some potted plants if you dont have them because they brighten any room.

Taste Another Culture!

A saying: "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" seems to be very accurate for Ireland. As the economy has boomed and the influx of immigrants has begun everybody can taste other cultures in ethnic restaurants, take aways and even buy ingredients in fresh food markets and in Irish shops which have started providing food from all around the world such as Asian noodles, French cheese, Spanish meat and Polish soup.

One day a taxi driver surprised me a lot: when he had discovered the fact that I am Polish he straight away shouted out to me his favourite Polish dishes which are bigos (sort of cabbage stew), pierozki (dumplings) and zobrowka (Vodka) with apple juice. This, uncommon for an Irish person, culinary preference springs from the fact that his sister in law comes from Poland and for 25 years now has cultivated Polish cuisine at home.

When I met Gregg Behan, sales manager of Irish Broadband he told me about his colleague, Isobel from France. The other day she discovered a French delicatessen stall at a Fresh Food market in Leopardstown. Next day she served her country delights to her colleagues at work. Gregg points out: That was amazing! Everybody loved it. I would probably pass the stall by not even knowing what all that stuff is. But I liked the food she brought, so probably next time I will ask her to buy some of the nice sausages and cheeses for me.

On the other hand people arriving in Ireland are keen to taste Irishness as well and not only Guinness but also Irish stew, bacon and cabbage, lamb and of course the famous Irish breakfast. Foreigners are disgusted looking at what we eat for breakfast, but some day they try it, and then when their family or friends come over, probably they will serve them a traditional Irish fry Gregg wondered and I had to admit that it is exactly what happens!

People living in Ireland nowadays have an incredible chance to get to know other cultures. It might start from the food I am certainly taking this opportunity. I love shopping in Asian and African markets, trying vegetables and lentils, which I have never seen in my life. I have fallen for Italian and Spanish cheese, cannot imagine my life without sushi and must have Indian at least once a month.

Lead Generation Tips For Finding Thousands Of Targeted Leads

Lead Generation Tips For Finding Thousands Of Targeted Leads

by Shane Hunte

It is so important to your online success that you find the right lead generation system. You need one that works now and in the future and I have set out some tips here to help you find such a system or create your own.

1. Target The Sellers Not The Customers.

This may sound a little odd but the best way to find leads is to target those people who are looking to do the same thing in your market. This makes it easy to persuade them to do the work for you.Finding people for your program becomes easier and this turns your efforts into an automated lead generation system.

These sellers will work relentlessly to find people for their own programs of interest and it makes it a hell of a lot easier to profit while cutting your work load in half. This works best with multi-level marketing. Don't believe everything you read online about these kinds of programs, it is easy to use and to profit from.

2. Let Multi-Level Marketing Be Your Guide to Leads.

Now I just mention how important this but you also have to realize that not only can you profit from this but you can also create a leads system that can last forever, no matter what you are promoting.

This is because when you get people to sign up for a program that interest them and they like you for your help in reaching success, you can use these same people to do you promotion for you in the future by using their conections. You may know lots of people but other individuals have their own networks as well.

E.g If Jack has 10 people who know 10 people who may have 5 friends etc I think you get the point. It all adds up. Use mlm lead generation as a weapon.

3. Viral Marketing .

This sound like a disease but actually it is kind of the same concept. A disease travels from one person to the next while infecting them with the germs that it carries and viral marketing infects people with quality information that they always wanted and are searching for. All you do is give them the right to distribute it on you behalf for free.

Birds Of A Feather Flock Together!

This simply means that people associate themselves with other people of the same interest and they form networks because of that interest. Creating a quality report that will interest them and also give valuable information will get them to give it away to their friends who will probably do the same thing. This is a POWERFUL tool.

4. A Lead Generation Company Vs Lead Generation Software.

Well we have a battle going on here but personally I have used these two lead generation systems in a combination together. I have found a company that uses web portals to create unimaginable sources of leads for any program under the sun. They aslo created a web based software to make you sales generation system as automated as possible.

My advice to you would be to join such a company like I have. It can will give you more leads than you can handle and trust me that is exactly what you want.

5. Targeted Lead Generation Is Vital To Your Success

Do not invest in any lead generation system that doesn't give you laser targered leads. You don't want to waste time and money on getting people to buy your product if they don't want it in the first place this makes it twice as hard to sell you products or services.

In a supermarket you may buy a chocolate because it is specifially centered at the checkout counter when you are going to pay for you groceries. This works perfectly for impulse buying.

You weren't looking for sweets but you are bombarded with them when you are about to leave. On the internet you don't have this luxury, you need to find exactly who are looking for your product, information, service etc or you will wasting your time and money.

Do you now see why lead generation is so vital? I know you are smart and will join such a system if you find one. If you can then you are on the right track to success.

May name is Shane Hunte and I am a professional Internet Marketer.

I have been working on the internet for the past 3 years and I have made thousands of dollars. I just want to share my success with as many people as possible so they can reach this success as well.

To reach success online you need to find quality leads, which is anyone who is looking specifically for your product or service. To find them you need a complete lead generation system to help you. There is such a system available. Veretekk Lead Generation System is it.

The Truth On Menopause And Weight Gain

The truth on menopause and weight gain

One of the major causes of weight gain in women is the changes in their hormone levels and sedentarism. Studies show that about 90 percent of menopausal women experience weight gain between the ages 35 to 55. This is not surprising because weight gain comes with the territory of aging and menopausal.

Medical experts say that menopause occurs when a womans ovaries has stopped producing estrogen which is responsible for ovulation and menstruation. Today, more and more women who are experiencing menopause go through weight gain due to hormonal changes brought about by aging. Experts explain that with aging, the muscles in the body start to decrease in bulk along with the slowing of metabolism. This slowing down of metabolism along with decrease in bulk of the bodys muscles contributes to weight gain. Aside from weight gain, menopause also leads to loss of sexual appetite or loss of libido, vaginal atrophy, and growth or loss of hair in the head and face. With all these demoralizing truths, it is common that women who are experiencing menopause lose self-confidence and esteem. But, it shouldnt stay that way. With the help of science and modern researches, weight gain during menopausal years can be solved.

THE WEIGHT GAIN

Weight gain during menopause is as common as aging. Usually, women sometimes gain about 10 to15 pounds starting from their abdomen, to the hips, thighs, and rear. Studies show that weight gain on women usually starts during their pre-menopausal years and will continue to pile up as they grow older. For those who have experienced early menopausal due to major operation or surgery, they are expected to gain weight faster compared to those who havent.

Because of the changes in their weight or size, many women are starting to dread the thought of menopausal. It is recommended to exerciseregularly and eat to one's appetite. Experts say that women should be more aware when they are entering the stage of menopausal so they can prepare for it. Physicians say that women should expect that as they enter the early stages of menopause, they would have difficulty maintaining their weight because of the fluctuation in their hormones. Because of these natural hormonal changesthat include estrogen, testosterone, and androgen levelsa mans or womans appetite, metabolism, and fat storage are greatly affected.

UNVEILING THE REASONS BEHIND WEIGHT GAIN DURING MENOPAUSE

Before sulking into a pit of depression, a woman must know the reasons behind it so she can make the necessary adjustments.

1. Hormone deficiency and lack of female hormones that slows down metabolism. Lack of estrogen leads to excessive weight gain because it alters certain functions of the body and greatly influences fat distribution in the body. You must understand estrogen and fat distribution very well.

2. Slow metabolism due to aging. As people grow older, their metabolism starts to slow down. One effective way of reducing energy intake, women who are experiencing menopause are recommended to have a balanced diet composed of whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

3. Lack of exercise or physical activity. As women enter their menopausal stage, they become more sedentary in almost everything that they do. This inactive lifestyle leads them to weight gain because they are not getting enough physical exercise they should get. If muscle pains are giving a woman a hard time to do such simple and regular exercises, she can try taking in vitamin and mineral supplement to boost her energy levels that contain calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, chromium and selenium.

4. The use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can also be a big factor in gaining weight. Although HRT is known to help give back lost female hormones, this treatment can also add up on the weight she already has because it works. HRT has also been subject to serious warnings in their use recently.

5. Weight gain can also be traced in increased food intake due to emotional problems like depression. Emotional eating or overeating due to frustration over weight gain is also a big factor that contributes to excessive weight gain. Talking to friends and satying active are powerful ways to fight back.

My Team of Almost Hall of Famers

I put together a team of players I liked that did not make the Hall of Fame. Some of these ballplayers deserve entry into the sacred shrine. In my opinion Jim Rice, Andre Dawson and Dave Parker should have their faces bronzed in Cooperstown NY. Their overall numbers compare very favorably to players that have made it to Cooperstown.

This is my list of Almost Hall of Famers

First Base Dick Allen had six years that he hit over 30 home runs and six years over 90 RBIs. I loved watching him play for the Phillies. I remember people making an issue because he used a 40 ounce bat. Considered a extremely heavy hitting tool in his day.

Second baseman Joe Gordon also had six years knocking in over 90 runs. He was a nine time all star and in 1942 he won the American League MVP. He hit 253 home runs in his career. I often thought what motivated the Yankees to trading such a great ballplayer. His career lasted all of 11 years.

Short Stop Dave Concepcion won five gold gloves playing on some great Cincinnati Reds teams. As a nine time all star he played his entire career with the Reds. I do not ever remember watching him make a mental error. He always seemed to know what to do on the field.

Third Baseman Craig Nettles was one of my favorites. A tremendous fielder. He gobbled up everything hit his way. He was a six time all star. He finished his career with 1314 RBIs and 390 home runs.

Catcher Joe Torre won the National League Batting Title and had five years when he had over 100 RBIs. In 1971 he knocked in 137 runs and won the NL MVP. One of a few catchers that has ever won a batting title. Nine time all star.

Outfielder Andre Dawson had 1591 RBIs in his career. Seven of those seasons he accumulated at least 90 RBI. His high mark is 137 RBIs in 1987. Andre amassed 438 home runs in his career with a single season best of 49 in 1987. He also won the Nation League MVP 1987.

Outfielder Joe Jackson played until he was 30 years old. He batted 370 or more five times. He has the third highest lifetime batting average at.356. He struck out only 158 times in 4981 at bats. An amazing player.

Outfielder Jim Rice had 1451 RBIs in his career. With eight years of at least 100 RBIs. He had over 200 hits three years in a row. He won the American League MVP in 1978 in a tight race over Ron Guidry. His 382 lifetime home runs did not tell the story of how good he was. I thought he was a tremendous hitter. An eight time all star.

I took the liberty of making Dave Parker an outfielder a DH. Why not its my list. Dave drove in 1493 runs. With 10 years at least 90 RBIs. He accumulated 526 Doubles and was a seven time all star. In 1978 he was NL MVP.

Pitcher Tommy John had a 26 year career. His 288 wins rank high all time. He missed the entire 1975 season to have what is now called Tommy John Surgery.

Pitcher Vida Blue had a lifetime 3.27 era. He won the MVP and Cy Young award in 1971 when had a 1.82 era. A six time all star he won 209 games in his career.

Relief pitcher Goose Gossage had a 3.01 lifetime era. With 310 lifetime saves I can still remember him blazing the ball by the opposition when he pitched for the Yankees. Nine time all star and a tremendous competitor.

So there you have it. Some impressive players that was so close to making the Hall of Fame.

Please pass this on to your friends.

11 Practices to Improve your Songwriting Ability

Hi. My name is Joshua Thompson, and I have been writing music since the age of 4. My life goes through cycles, and some years I am more productive than others. I have been reflecting on what things I do that keep me creative and productive, and I came up with these 11 practices that help to juice up my creative ability. My hope is that you might benefit from these tips as well.

1. Listen to a variety of music. When I make time to listen to others music, it gives my creativity a jump start. Its kind of like eating I try to digest a variety of music to give me a balanced diet of inspiration. When I listen, my subconscious picks up nuances and riffs and tone, and later when I am writing my own music, I find myself writing much more fluently.

2. Practice singing harmony. One of the best abilities that you can develop as a songwriter is to be able to sing harmony on the fly. As you drive in your car, practice singing harmony to the music youre listening to. Singing harmony on the fly is really an act of composition, and as you become more fluent, it will help your composition ability.

3. Keep a digital recorder with you. I make a habit to keep a digital recorder with me at all times. You never know when a great new melody might come to you, and I even find that I am more likely to come up with a melody if I have a recorder with me. I especially recommend having one by your bed; I find that I will often wake up with a song running through my head, and having a recorder near enables me to get the melody down.

4. Practice your instrument while watching a movie. This is one of my favorite new tricks. I practice jazz chords and scales while watching DVDs, and I find that multitasking in this way helps to make my playing more fluent.

5. Make time to jam with others. Even if youre not in a group, make time to jam with musician friends. I find that looking forward to a jam session helps me to be a bit more creative I want to have a song to share, and I tend to write more under a little pressure.

6. Find encouragers. Its really important to find a few people who like your music and can encourage you. Writing music is a very personal act, and its hard to produce when you dont get any positive feedback. Having friends who really enjoy my music and who can give me encouragement helps to keep me motivated.

7. Read poems and short stories. In the same what that I try to digest a variety of music, I also make an effort to read poetry and short stories. I find that tuning in to others imagination through reading helps me to be more imaginative, which helps my lyric writing ability

8. Challenge yourself to write one poem each day. I have disciplined myself to write one poem as I ride the bus to work each day, and I find that this helps me be able to produce lyrics for my songs when I need them.

9. Take existing poems or bible verses and write melodies for them. I keep my melody-writing ability fine tuned by taking existing poems and writing melodies for them. So far I have written melodies for the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, the book of James, and the book of Ephesians. Once again, the discipline of producing melodies helps me to be more creative.

10. Improvise Melodies while alternating between two chords of accompaniment. I have found this exercise to be an impetus to writing good melodies: with my left hand, I alternate between two chords, and with my right hand I improvise melodies. Again, practicing writing music on the fly helps to keep me creative.

11. Develop your ability to think in multiple lines of instrumentation. When music is going through your head, try to stretch your composition ability by thinking in multiple lines of music. It takes effort, but the more lines of instrumentation you are able to hold in your mind, the better you will be able to compose when it comes time to write.

By taking time to practice these disciplines, I hope that you will find your song-writing ability increasing.

When I Grow Up I Want To Play Guitar

The secret to becoming a really good guitar player is, start playing and never stop. It really IS that simple!

Many people say "Gee you know, I've always wanted to play guitar, or I'd like to play guitar but I don't think I'll be very good at it".

You know if you really want to play guitar, just start. Don't listen to all the advice of all the people around you.

Now, here's a little story I'm sure many of you will be able to relate to. It's a story about Paddy - a guy who knew what he wanted to do and followed his heart.

When Paddy was in grade five at school, the teacher asked the class "What do you want to be when you grow up?". She would ask each member of the class.

"What do you want to be when you grow up, Jimmy? "

Jimmy would say. "A doctor miss".

"Oh that's very good choice Jimmy, that's great".

"What do you want to be when you grow up, Mary?"

"I'm going to be an accountant miss"

"Excellent choice, very good choice"

Now when it came to Paddy, she asked.

" What do you want to be when you grow up, Paddy?"

Paddy replied, "a guitar player".

The whole class errupted in laughter. The whole class .... it was just amazing. Paddy wasn't expecting this reaction. He had no idea why this was happening . Paddy hadn't started to play guitar or anything yet, but that's really what he wanted to do.

So the teacher asked again.

"What do you really want to do when you grow up, Paddy?"

Paddy said, "play guitar".

And the same thing only louder, everybody laughed. Paddy just couldn't work out why they had this reaction. So he sat down red faced and quite puzzled trying to work this out.

Anyway, a year later, the teacher asked the class, "what do you want to be when you grow up". When it came to Paddy's turn, the teacher said.

"Now Paddy, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

So Paddy stood up, he wasn't as confident this time as he was the previous year, but he said.

"A guitar player".

And the same thing, the whole class erupted. Paddy looked around for support from the teacher but.... she was kind of buckled up in pain trying to hold back the laughter. And so anyway he got to thinking that maybe he wasn't giving them the answer they want.

So the next year, he was prepared for it. Paddy thought, right, I've got the hang of this now. So when it came around to his turn again, she asked.

"Now Paddy"...... and of course the class is just waiting for his answer.

"Now Paddy, what are you going to do when you grow up? What do you want be?"

this time, he said............"a swimmer".

And the whole class laughed AGAIN!. By this time he was REALLY angry ... he looked down to his, (now) ex -friend , who was sitting pretty close to him and Paddy asked....

"What's SO funny about that?"

The guy just looked up and said...

"But you CAN'T swim!"

Paddy exclaimed, " does that matter?"

He just couldn't really get the hang of this. Of course the thing was Paddy really wasn't giving them the stock standard answer that they wanted. Like a doctor or a dentist or something like that. But that's really what Paddy wanted to do and the reality is that all he's ever really done.

Now the reason why I'm telling you this is because the formula to become a really good guitar player is quite simple. There's only two steps.

Decide to do it. Do it.

Now, along the way you'll need a properly set up guitar. You'll need your equipment to be easy to play. And you'll need top quality information. But the most important thing is you need to be internally motivated. That's if you want to be really good. If you are internally motivated that means you REALLY want to play guitar, that's what you want to do. There's really nothing that can stop you.

So until next time have fun with your guitar playing and if that's what you want to do, just go for it!

Google AdWords Traffic - 4 Ways To Get It Cheaper

Theres sometimes a lot of hype surrounding how you can get Google AdWords traffic more cheaply. And I know people who have spent a lot of money on a guide from a so-called marketing guru only to discover that the amazing traffic techniques were really not so incredible at all.

Leaving the hype aside, here are four down-to-earth techniques that will enable you to obtain cheaper traffic from almost any of your Google AdWords campaigns.

1. Combine an Increase in Keywords with a Lower Bid

One of the best ways to get more traffic from your Google AdWords campaigns is to add more keyword phrases in conjunction with lowering your pay-per-click bids. By doing this you can end up drive much more traffic through your campaign at a lower price per visitor.

Make sure that the new keyword phrases you add are still very relevant. I bet you can still find plenty more relevant keywords if you think carefully. Many advertisers initially set up a new campaign with a bunch of keywords to test it out, and then they forget to come back later and add more relevant keyword phrases. You can find many more relevant keywords using the free software, Good Keywords, or even Googles own Keyword Tool. I like Good Keywords Phrase Builder as it enables you to build lists of hundreds of keyword phrases in seconds.

2. Use Phrase or Narrow Match

Try using phrase match or narrow match for your keyword phrases. The reason you should try this is that narrower keyword phrases do not always trigger the same minimum bids at AdWords and therefore you can get traffic cheaper.

Often when Ive been unwilling to pay the minimum bid on broad match for a keyword phrase, I have been able to get it showing quickly by using phrase or narrow match.

The best thing about this technique is that your traffic is will be even more targeted because of the matching so it will most likely convert better, and all the time it costs you less than the broad match would have

To add a keyword phrase with phrase matching put quotes around it like this:
keyword phrase

To add a keyword phrase with narrow matching put brackets around it like this:
[keyword phrase]

3. Advertise in Other Countries

North America is an excellent geographical target area for many campaigns, but it also very much more competitive to get traffic when compared to other regions. Try targeting a few other countries that may be interested in your product or service. I can think of one particular campaign where I simply cannot get North American traffic for under $0.05 per click, yet I still get loads of traffic from parts of Europe for $0.01 per click.

4. Use a Keyword Research Tool

If you spend a considerable amount on pay-per-click advertising you should really be using a professional keyword research tool. A good keyword tool like Keyword Elite will enable you to quickly research good keyword phrases that have less competition.

And less competition means you will pay less for your traffic if you bid on those keywords.

There you go. Four ways that you can get more traffic from Google AdWords at a lower cost per click. Try it and watch your advertising campaigns become more profitable.

Performance Car Tuning

Performance tuning is the tuning of an engine to increase the power output, torque, and responsiveness of the engine as well as the reliability and economy. To performance tune the engine, it must be strong enough to endure the extra power, sometimes far stronger than the standard engine. Also when Performance Tuning the car you must take into account the transmission, suspension and the brakes to make sure that these match the power output and torque of the engine as this will affect the overall performance of the car and make it more reliable and competitive. Most people want to increase the power output of an engine. The main way that is used to do this is to increase the rate and efficiency of combustion in an engine. This is achieved by putting more fuel/air mixture into the engine, using a fuel with higher energy content, burning it more rapidly, and getting rid of the waste products more rapidly - this increases volumetric efficiency. The specific ways this is done include:

Increasing the engine displacement. This can be done by "boring" - increasing the diameter of the cylinders and pistons, or by "stroking" - using a crankshaft with a longer stroke (in combination with pistons of shorter compression height, to maintain the original compression ratio), or both.

Using larger or multiple carburetors, to create more fuel/air mixture to burn, and to get it into the engine more quickly. In modern engines, fuel injection is more often used, and may be modified in a similar manner.

Increasing the size of the valves in the engine, thus decreasing the restriction in the path of the fuel/air mixture entering, and the exhaust gases leaving the cylinder. Using multiple valves per cylinder results in the same thing - it is often more practical to have several small valves than have larger single valves.

Using larger bored, smoother, less contorted intake and exhaust manifolds. This helps maintain the velocity of gases. Similarly, the ports in the cylinder can be enlarged and smoothed to match. This is termed "Cylinder head porting", usually with the aid of an air flow bench for testing and verifying the efficiency of the modifications.

The larger bore may extend right through the complete exhaust system, using larger diameter piping and low back pressure mufflers, and through the intake system, with larger diameter air boxes and high-flow, high-efficiency air filters. Muffler modifications will change the sound of the car's engine, usually making it louder; for some tuners this is in itself a desirable property.

Increasing the valve opening height (lift), by changing the profiles of the camshaft or the lift (lever), ratio of the valve rockers (OHV engines), or cam followers (OHC engines).

Optimizing the valve timing to improve burning efficiency - usually this increases power at one range of operating RPM at the expense of reducing it at others. For many applications this compromise is acceptable. Again this is usually achieved by a differently profiled camshaft. See also Four-stroke cycle Valve Timing, variable valve timing.

Raising the compression ratio, which makes more efficient use of the cylinder pressure developed and leading to more rapid burning of fuel, by using larger compression height pistons or thinner head gasket, or by milling "shaving" the cylinder head.

Forced Induction; adding a turbocharger or supercharger. The fuel/air mass entering the cylinders is increased by compressing the air first, usually mechanically.

Using a fuel with higher energy content or by adding an oxidizer such as nitrous oxide.

Changing the tuning characteristics electronically, by changing the firmware of the engine management system (EMS). This chip tuning often works because modern engines are designed to give a great deal of raw power, which is then reduced by the engine management system to make the engine operate smoothly over a wider RPM range, with low emissions. By analogy with an operational amplifier, the EMS acts as a feedback loop around an engine with a great deal of open loop gain. Many modern engines are now of this type and amenable to this form of tuning. Naturally many other design parameters are sacrificed in the pursuit of power. The choice of modification depends greatly on the degree of performance enhancement desired, budget, and the characteristics of the engine to be modified. Intake, exhaust, and chip upgrades are usually amongst the first modifications made as they are the cheapest, make reasonably general improvements (whereas a different camshaft, for instance, requires trading off performance at low engine speeds for improvements at high engine speeds), can often improve fuel economy, generally don't affect engine reliability much (because no moving parts are modified), and are in any case essential to take full advantage of any further upgrades.

Manufacturer Detuned Engines - Changing the tuning characteristics electronically, by changing the firmware of the engine management system (EMS). This chip tuning also works because many manufacturers produce one engine which is used in a range of models and the power and torque characteristics are determined solely by the engine management system software. This allows the manufacturers to sell cars in various markets with different tax and emissions regulations without the huge development cost of designing different engines. Cross platform engine sharing also allows for a single engine to be used by different brands, tuned to suit their particular market.

Factors To Think About When Choosing A Broadband Internet Service

Undoubtedly, broadband is the future of internet, but there are other ways of getting onto the internet. If speed isn't something that you need to have, you may want to look for a company that offers dial up service. It is much slower than the broadband but it can be much cheaper. It isn't good enough if you need to download large files or watch videos, but if you just need to write email or get information from the internet, it can work just fine. Broadband internet providers, especially some of the smaller ones will more often than not offer dial up as well. The idea is that you don't have to pay for a service that you don't need. As a person deciding on a service provider, consider what the service will be used for and then make a decision to use broadband or dial up services.

However, if you decide to change from dial-up to broadband internet either because of business needs or for faster surfing speed at home. By and large, broadband internet refers to permanent connection at 256 Kbps or any transmission that is higher than that.

There are two significant benefits that a broadband internet can offer you. You are automatically connected to the internet by once you turn on your computer. Broadband providers usually offer unlimited surfing package, which means you can surf as long as you want for one flat price.

Hundreds of service providers offer broadband internet promising clients of "super fast" access to the internet. This can be misleading because some service providers do not meet these promises. That's why it is imperative to consider a few things before getting a package for your broadband connection.

How Broadband Speed Affects Your Internet Experience

When you acquire a broadband service, one of the things you often need to think about is the speed of broadband service being offered to you. Although your broadband provider may attempt to make it appear as if it's vital to have the fastest speed, you need to think about your needs for what you want to do with your Internet connection. Understanding your personal needs in broadband speeds will prevent you from buying too much or too little. Certainly, what most savings-minded people are interested in knowing is when broadband speed enters the realm of being too much. Generally speaking, if you're simply browsing the Internet, then you will enjoy the speed of broadband, but don't need to purchase the fastest connection possible. Most text-based documents such as e-mail, news sites, and similar sites, simply don't need connections that are superbly fast.

If you begin doing other activities, such as downloading music and watching online videos, then you might want to get something slightly faster than the basic broadband speed. Remember, a little goes a long way. But generally speaking, the amount of data any single web page will transfer information to you at will be at a slower speed than your broadband connection, so there's potential for wasted bandwidth.

In some situations, you may realize that you don't have enough broadband speed to support your activity. However, these are the extreme cases. If you have many Internet users who like to use the Internet at the same time, such as having high school students who regularly enjoy playing video games over the Internet, you will absolutely desire a faster connection. If you make many peer-to-peer downloads, download a lot of videos and music, or browse numerous pages at one time, you also may need a faster connection.

Last but not least, another thing to think about when deciding on what bandwidth speed is your upload speed. This will have an effect on any data you send out to the Internet, including sending e-mail, transferring files to remote servers, and hosting web pages. Generally speaking, if you plan to run your own website, get broadband with fast speeds for uploads. Or, better yet, have a remote hosting company host your website at fast speeds without increasing the price for your home connection. On the whole, for both uploads and downloads, you should cautiously assess how heavily you intend to use the Internet and purchase accordingly, and you'll end up getting what's just right for you.

Getting your Money - Back on Track

Have your money matters run off the tracks ? There are a variety of methods for getting those wheels turning in the right direction again. Lets stop the engine and take a look at how you got to this stage.

There are two sides to the track what goes in and what goes out.

Your financial situation is the same as driving a car with a full tank of gas. Your income ie salary/wages you receive is like filling up the tank. Your spending is the kilometres you travel, that takes the money out. Do you keep your tank full? Or do you run you tank on empty and not quite reach your destination?

Income

If you are in a situation where you do not have enough money in the bank account. Is there an opportunity to increase the money going in for example ;

Work an extra hour each day that could be 7 hours a week, almost an extra day

Find a skill you have to provide an additional service

Volunteer for opportunities that may not pay today, but may increase your skills to get a better position in the future

Look carefully at all your treasures are they still needed or could you sell some of them to fill up the tank in the short term

Keeping the tank filled up allows you to get to where you want to be

Expenses

Expenses are all those things we need to pay for. Some are more important than others. Lets split them into essentials and nice to have. Look at what you spend in the following areas. How far you can travel before the next payday !!!

Essentials...................... Weekly Spending...Changes I can make
Rent, mortgage or housing cost
Basic Food for daily living - groceries
Transport Fuel/Bus/
Electricity / Gas
Water
Telephone - landline/cell
Insurance - house/life/public/medical
Loans
Credit card Payments
Family Obligations childcare etc
Superannuation/savings programme
(a) Essentials Sub Total $
(b) Record you take home pay $

Take (a) away from (b)This is ( c )$
Nice to have lifestyle choices

What does your bank account look like :
If (a) is greater than (b) it is like driving your car too much. Your Bank account is not big enough for what you need to pay for.

If (b) is greater than (a) well done you have planned for the essentials on this trip. You have money for extra treats nice to have lifestyle choices.

You can only spend what is in (c) to cover what you think you really want Eating out, coffee/lattes, clothes, movies, hobbies, subscriptions, vacations etc

I can hear you saying that you are different and this would not work for you !!!! Set a goal for how you would like to be living in 5 years. Carry a picture in your wallet of your future dream or goal. When you open your wallet to spend you will see this picture. It will remind you every day that you are stealing from yourself, and you deserve better than that for your life.

Living within your means, will get your finances back on track

5 New Communication Technologies To Supplement Email

Every business relies on effective communication with its customers. Communication doesn't just convey information, it inspires trust, builds credibility, stimulates involvement and generates loyalty. But in today's global, hi-tech, rapidly changing business environment, how do you ensure you're communicating effectively?

THE BENCHMARK - FACE-TO-FACE

There's no doubt that face-to-face communication is the most effective method for most people. Why? Because of its two-way nature. It's about dialogue. Listeners are not passive participants. When someone talks to us, we send a continuous stream of responses back to them. Some are verbal, but many/most are not. These responses have the power to actually change the message being disseminated by the talker. What's more, they have the power to change how other listeners' interpret that message. (Similarly, other listeners have the power to change your interpretation.)

Unfortunately, however, the global nature of business makes it impossible to conduct face-to-face meetings for every communication. So what are the alternatives? Specifically, what are the alternatives offered by technology?

EMAIL - THE STARTING POINT

The benefits of email are numerous and well known, and include (but are not limited to):

Email is an excellent mechanism for distributing information to people. It is fast and cost effective.

It is incredibly convenient - you can readily communicate across time zones.

It provides a useful electronic paper trail.

It can save a great deal of time because most of the fluff surrounding a phone call (the social niceties) are seen as unnecessary in email.

It allows recipients to read and respond to messages in their own time.

The wording, grammar and punctuation in an email can be considered and edited before finally sending.

But email does have its limitations:

Its lack of social niceties is a double-edged sword. Without the benefit of other communication cues, it's sometimes hard to interpret the tone of an email, and this can make some messages ambiguous.

It isn't ideal for critical communication. For many people, emails are not 'real-time' communication. We all have that unaddressed email sitting at the bottom of the list. Because emails are so easy to ignore, they're also easy to forget.

Ironically, email's dissemination effectiveness has been one of the major impediments to its communication effectiveness. It's so easy to send emails - and they're so anonymous - that our inboxes are now flooded with SPAM. Consequently, emails are viewed with some suspicion. It's sometimes hard to identify legitimate emails, but it's very easy to just hit Delete.

Because email senders are typically geographically (and often culturally) distant from their recipients, they have no immediate visual and aural cues to help them tailor the message as they type.

But there's no need to 'throw out the baby with the bathwater'. Email is an excellent solution to many communication needs. And for those it is ill-equipped to handle, there are newer, more appropriate technologies that are built for the job...

WEB 2.0 TECHNOLOGIES - THE PERFECT SUPPLEMENT

Web 2.0, a term coined by O'Reilly Media (an American media company) in 2004 refers, to a second-generation of internet-based services that let people collaborate and share information online in new ways.

Web 2.0 technologies are well defined in www.wikipaedia.org, which suggests that these sites allow the users of the sites (members) to create and share content, including exploring and discussing ideas, opinions, initiatives and issues. Web 2.0 is all about communication. It is the evolution of the internet from an endless library of static pages to an endless world of conversations. These pages can be restricted to particular individuals (eg the executive), or open to all members. The only difference is that the interaction takes place in cyberspace, and those taking part can be sitting behind a keyboard just about anywhere on the planet.

Importantly, a reader's understanding of the message in a Web 2.0 communication is determined, not just by the publisher, but also by the responses (e.g. comments) of the audience. What's more, the publisher's actual message tends to be far more fluid as it, too, is informed by the responses of the audience. In other words, Web 2.0 services are far more like face-to-face conversations than any communication technology before them.

So what are these emerging technologies that we should be keeping an eye on? The two most notable are 'Wikis' and 'Blogs'. The following definitions are from http://www.wikipedia.org, an online encyclopaedia developed as a wiki.

Wikis - A wiki is a type of website that allows users to easily add, remove or otherwise edit and change content. This ease of interaction and operation makes a wiki an effective tool for collaborative authoring. Examples include Wikipedia (wikipedia.com) and wikiwikiweb (http://www.wikiwikiweb.com).

Blogs - A weblog, which is usually shortened to blog, is a type of online diary or journal which allows one to voice their opinion on something. Blogs often provide commentary or news and information on a particular subject. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media. Blogs are usually text based, but they can include photographs, videos or audio (podcasting). Blogs can be presented in a way that creates a conversation between users. As an example, see the Sydney Morning Herald travel blog (http://blogs.smh.com.au/lostintransit/).

THE USES OF WEB 2.0

As with face-to-face social gatherings and forums, online get togethers attract a broad spectrum of participants eager to engage, entertain, befriend, advise and lecture.

It was reported in The Australian (Tuesday 8 August 2006) that the social computing element of Web 2.0 has recently been embraced by the US Government. The US State Department has started including blogs and other Web 2.0 concepts to deliver public information to citizens. It is also using wiki style services to improve information by permitting small expert communities to improve advisory services.

The same article advised that Australias leading information advisory body, the Australian Government Information Management Office, had begun experimenting with the use of blogs, wikis and other Web 2.0 technologies.

As new online social networks mushroom, they are becoming increasingly focused on niches, ideally suited to membership based organizations and the NFP sector. Examples of general public social networks include My Space (http://www.myspace.com), Classmates (http://www.classmates.com) and Bikely (bikely.com).

OTHER USEFUL TECHNOLOGIES

SMS - Short Message Service (SMS) is a service available on most digital mobile phones (and other mobile devices, e.g. a Pocket PC, or occasionally even desktop computers) that permits the sending of short messages between mobile phones, other handheld devices and even landline telephones.

Podcast - Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio or video programs, over the internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers.

Webinars - Web conferencing is used to hold group meetings or live presentations over the internet. In the early years of the internet, the terms "web conferencing" and "computer conferencing" were often used to refer to group discussions conducted within a message board (via posted text messages), but the term has evolved to refer specifically to "live" or "synchronous" meetings, while the posted message variety of discussion is called a "forum", "message board", or "bulletin board". A webinar is a seminar which is conducted over the World Wide Web. It is a type of web conferencing. In contrast to a Webcast, which is transmission of information in one direction only, a webinar is designed to be interactive between the presenter and audience. A webinar is 'live' in the sense that information is conveyed according to an agenda, with a starting and ending time. In most cases, the presenter may speak over a standard telephone line, pointing out information being presented on screen, and the audience can respond over their own telephones, preferably a speakerphone. Whilst not necessarily considered Web 2.0, Webinars can also be a useful mechanism for information distribution and discussion amongst membership based organizations and SMS can provide important or urgent confirmations.

CONCLUSION

Email is - and will continue to be - an incredibly useful and convenient communication tool. In fact, with the emergence of new technologies that are either more direct, more immediate, or more like face-to-face communication, email is improved. As businesses supplement their email usage with other communication technologies, email will be increasingly reserved for those communications to which it is ideally suited.
